Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 30
Another big Compliance Jobs Report heading into Labor Day Weekend! We have new hires at Eli Lilly, Veon, Truist, Lifepoint Health, and more; plus a reshuffle of integrity and compliance leaders at Volkswagen. Also a bunch of promotions to note, job leads in insurance, investing, and hospitality; and Meme of the Week goes out to Breaking Bad fans.
Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs
This week we begin at Eli Lilly, which has hired Stephanie McCallum to be its next chief ethics and compliance officer. McCallum comes to the pharma giant after 13 years at fellow pharma giant AbbVie, where most recently she was associate general counsel for medical devices (although she also held ethics and compliance roles there earlier in her tenure). McCallum succeeds Alonzo Weems, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
And we missed this until now, but Volkswagen changed up the leadership of its ethics and compliance function earlier this summer. The auto giant moved Nicolas Heyer up the ladder, from running VW’s whistleblower system (since 2020) to be chief integrity and compliance officer. Kurt Michels, VW’s previous chief integrity and compliance officer, has reportedly moved over to be head of internal audit (although he has not updated his LinkedIn profile to say as much; but sources within VW tell me it’s so). Also remember that Thomas Meiers, another top integrity executive at VW, parted ways with the company earlier this year.
Veon, the European telecom giant based in Amsterdam, has hired Gabriela Gutierrez as group head of ethics and compliance. Gutierrez comes to Veon from Just Eat Takeaway.com, an online food delivery platform, where she had been global senior ethics and compliance manager.
Jonathan Tran has joined Andreessen Horowitz, one of the biggest venture capital firms in Silicon Valley, as compliance officer. Tran comes to Andreessen after seven years at BlackRock, where most recently he had been vice president of legal and compliance.
Truist just hired Jason Hyslop as vice president and senior compliance officer. Hyslop comes to the bank after many years at Raymond James, most recently as vice president of surveillance.
Lifepoint Health, a hospital system headquartered in Tennessee, has hired Elle Box as chief compliance officer. Box previously worked at UConn Health for two years as chief healthcare compliance and privacy officer.
Andreas Franz has joined real estate firm Hines as head of compliance for Europe and Asia-Pacific. Franz comes to Hines from Fiera Capital in London, where he had been head of compliance for Europe.
Kenery Gallagher has joined Climate United, a clean energy nonprofit, as chief compliance officer. Gallagher comes to the organization from Pact, an economic development nonprofit, where she had been vice president of compliance, grants, and contracts.
Pernod Ricard, the French spirits maker, has hired Abhishek Gupta as an investigations lead working from the company’s operations center in India. Gupta had previously been at Flipkart, where he led anti-corruption training and monitoring.
Grupo Proeza, a large holding company in Mexico with various industrial and agribusiness ventures, has hired Ulises Mazatan as internal audit team leader. Mazatan comes to the company (based in Monterrey) from Danfoss, where he had been an inventory control specialist.
Atlantic Union Bank has hired Laura Seibert as manager for internal audit and regulatory compliance. Seibert joins Atlantic Union after seven years at Customers Bank, where most recently she had been audit director for regulatory compliance.
Sherwin-Williams, maker and retailer of paints, has hired Jim Paulitzky as senior manager of internal audit. Paulitzky comes to the company after two years at KPMG, where he had been an audit manager.
Caitlin Lewis has joined research services firm Mathematica as senior manager of internal audit. Lewis comes to the firm after five years at audit firm CohnReznick, where she most recently was a manager.
Humana has hired Andrés Lagares Barnés as compliance lead for the health insurance giant’s Puerto Rico operations. Barnés previously worked at Triple-S Salud, a Blue Cross insurer in PR, as a strategy and outreach analyst.
Waterman Bank, a community bank in Waterman, Ill., has hired Rob Cunningham as chief compliance officer. Cunningham was previously a mortgage compliance officer at Home State Bank in Illinois for many years.
Promotions
TD Bank just promoted Anthony Gilstrap from IT auditor to senior compliance testing analyst. (Considering the huge sum TD just set aside for a pending settlement over anti-money laundering compliance failures, Gilstrap should have plenty to keep him busy.)
James Larkin has a new role within the Oracle empire. Larkin previously had been senior director of commercial excellence; now he’s senior director of compliance operations for Oracle’s health and life sciences teams.
Snap Finance, which provides lease-to-own financing to consumers, has promoted Jason McDevitt from director for financial crimes compliance to senior director for financial crimes compliance.
Prospera Financial, a broker-dealer firm, has promoted Shawn Baxter from compliance director to chief compliance officer.
PNC Bank recently made two promotions in its internal audit department. First, the bank promoted David Naypauer from internal audit manager to internal audit director; second, Macy Crytzer moved up from senior internal auditor to internal audit manager.
TD Synnex has promoted Clara Becerra Campos to be regional ethics and compliance officer for Europe; Campos had previously been senior compliance analyst for the region, and has been with TD Synnex for four years.
Parallon, maker of revenue management software for the healthcare industry, has promoted Anna Ansell from regulatory compliance manager to senior compliance manager.
Commonwealth Financial Network has promoted Brandon Zatopek from senior manager for RIA compliance (that’s registered investment advisers) to director of RIA compliance. Zatopek has been with the firm for 13 years.
Dymax, a chemical manufacturing business in Connecticut, has promoted Morgan Summer from corporate paralegal to global compliance officer. Summer has been with the company since 2021.
Vendors & Service Providers
Don’t die of surprise here, but vendors didn’t really have much news to announce the last week of August when everyone is on vacation before a long holiday weekend.
Open Req Orders
Katie Smith, vice president of ethics and compliance at Assurant, says she is looking to fill several roles as she builds out a new “connected living” compliance team. Smith is looking for an assistant vice president for mobile compliance; a senior ethics and compliance investigations manager, which will be a global role; and an ethics and compliance investigations manager who will focus on domestic matters.
Investment giant BlackRock is looking for a vice president of financial crimes compliance. Job is based in Atlanta; no mention of a salary range.
Hard Rock International, the restaurant, gambling, and hotel chain, is looking for a chief compliance officer. Job is based in suburban Fort Lauderdale; n’ary a peep on compensation. The posting does stress that candidates must have a law degree “from a top-tier U.S. law school” — I’ll just note that this job seems to have been open for a while and mention my post from last week about why compliance officers don’t really need law degrees to succeed.
Compliance Meme of the Week
That’s all for this week’s report.
