Compliance Jobs Report: Sept. 6
The Compliance Jobs Report this week has updates from ScionHealth, DraftKings, Caterpillar, MetLife, Orthofix, and plenty more! We also have a new compliance advisory firm on the scene; plus job leads in banking, retired people, and space flight!
Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs
This week we begin with Mary Shirley, who just joined ScionHealth as chief compliance officer. Shirley comes to Scion, which operates hospitals and other healthcare facilities in 25 states, from medical device maker Masimo, where she had been head of compliance for 18 months. Shirley has also written several books about compliance officer success.
Online gambling outfit DraftKings has hired Jeff Ambrose as vice president and head of internal audit. Ambrose comes to DraftKings after 10 years at CVS Health, where he had been vice president of internal audit.
We hadn’t caught this until now, but Matt Silverman quietly began working for Caterpillar earlier this summer as assistant general counsel for compliance. Silverman had previously been global trade director and senior counsel at Viavi Solutions.
IntelligentCross, an AI-powered stock trading platform, has hired Scott Kursman as chief compliance officer. Kursman previously worked at Citibank for more than 15 years as chief compliance officer for the bank’s global markets group.
Insurance giant MetLife has reshuffled the leadership of its internal audit team. First, chief auditor Toby Srihiran Brown has moved upstairs to be global head of reinsurance for the firm. Second, Rob Dill, previously CFO for MetLife’s Latin America operations, will succeed Brown as chief auditor. Both have been employees at MetLife for many years.
Kevin Bagdasarians has joined Orthofix as senior compliance manager for business partners. Bagdasarians comes to the medical device company (maker of spinal hardware) after three years at NuVasive, most recently as senior analyst for U.S. compliance and data management.
City of Hope, which actually is a hospital system rather than a city, has hired Jennifer Larsen as system director for hospital compliance. Larsen was last seen at Trinity Health, where she had been vice president of integrity and compliance for 13 years until she parted ways with Trinity in January.
TransUnion has hired Tsundzukani Maluleke as a senior compliance consultant working in its South Africa division. Maluleke comes to the credit reporting giant from Massmart, one of the largest retailers in South Africa, where she had been compliance monitoring manager.
Also in South Africa, insurance firm Guardrisk has hired Linda Hlatshwayo as compliance officer. Hlatshwayo comes to Guardrisk from Assupol Life, where she had been a regulatory compliance specialist.
At the other end of Africa, Egyptian pharmaceutical maker Utopia Pharmaceuticals has hired Mohamed Abdel Naby as a compliance supervisor. Naby joins Utopia from Al Andalous Pharmaceutical Industries, where he had been a senior compliance specialist.
Fintech firm Convera has hired Kamil Alvi as compliance director, working from London (although Convera is based in Seattle). Alvi joins Convera from Paramount Commerce, a Canadian fintech firm, where he had been head of compliance.
Moneta, a registered investment adviser based in St. Louis, has promoted Michaela Mason from compliance specialist to senior compliance specialist. Mason has been with the firm for almost three years.
Tsvetelina Gabin has been hired by Lakeside Software, a Boston-based company that helps other businesses manage their IT systems. Gabin previously worked at Rightworks, a firm that provided IT services to accounting firms, as a risk and compliance analyst.
Just, a rather plainly named tech startup in the auto insurance industry, has hired Steven Trop as head of compliance. Trop comes to the firm (which wants to price auto insurance on a per-miles driven basis, which sounds way cool) from Grange Insurance Association, where he had been compliance program manager since 2017.
And Maria van Oost has joined Dutch financial services firm Venntiv as compliance officer. Van Oost comes to Venntiv from the European Christian Political Movement, where she had been the political party’s compliance officer since last year. (Compliance officers for political parties, there’s a thought to make the American mind reel…)
Vendors & Service Providers
Michael Bowman, a long-time AML compliance executive at TD Bank, recently turned up at Kroll as managing director in its financial crimes advisory practice.
Super-huge law firm Mayer Brown has hired Sonali Patel as a partner in its global investigations & white-collar defense practice. Sonali previously served as assistant chief of the FCPA Unit at the Department of Justice.
And the great Hui Chen, long-time compliance professional and OG compliance counsel at the Justice Department back in the 2010s, has launched a new advisory firm, CDE Advisors. (It stands for “culture, data, and ethics.”) Her partner in this new venture is Zachary Coseglia, a former principal at Ropes & Gray.
Open Req Orders
The AARP is looking for a compliance and ethics manager. Job is based in Washington, D.C. (although it can by hybrid) and the salary range is $112,500 to $125,000.
NASA — yes, that NASA, the space people — is looking for a director of mission assurance standards, to help strengthen the oversight of its various mission projects. Job is full-time remote, although the headquarters office is in Indiana; and salary range is an oddly specific $205,000 to $211,000.
TD Bank is recruiting a head of U.S. compliance programs. Job is based in New York City, with a salary range of $160,000 to $220,000. Keep in mind that TD has been setting aside billions lately to settle a huge probe into AML compliance failures.
