Compliance Jobs Report: Oct. 4
The Compliance Jobs Report this week has news from Anthropic, Citibank, Lear Corp., the Gap, Raymond James, and lots more. We also have some work anniversaries to note, and job leads all along the East Coast in banking, higher ed, and photocopying! Meme of the Week goes out to fans of “Mean Girls.”
Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs
This week we begin at Anthropic, one of the big players in artificial intelligence and maker of the Claude AI system. The company just hired Adrienne Wilkins as federal compliance lead (presumably helping Anthropic to meet new AI regulations coming from the Biden Administration). Wilkins comes to Anthropic from Google, where most recently she had been head of security consulting for the public sector. Given everything that the Justice Department has been saying about AI risks lately, we’re sure Wilkins will be kept busy.
Kristine Coy-Foster has joined Gap Inc. as director of global integrity. Coy-Foster was last seen at Vulcan Corp. (recently rebranded as Vale Group), where she had been senior management of compliance and employee engagement until earlier this year.
Some interesting gossip about Citibank: word on the street is that Citi has hired Scott Cronin to help right the bank’s regulatory compliance improvement program, which has been so sputtering that regulators recently fined Citi another $136 million (on top of a $400 million fine in 2020 for the same issues). Cronin comes to Citi after six years at BNY Mellon, where he headed up SOX and regulatory compliance.
Citibank also just promoted Matthew Galasso from senior compliance surveillance analyst to compliance surveillance officer. Galasso has been with Citi for 10 years in various roles.
GE Vernova, the renewable energy business spun out of General Electric, has hired Aakriti Kundra as global ombudsman. Kundra comes to Vernova from TransUnion, where she had been global ethics and compliance lead for the last 18 months. She will also be moving to Cambridge, Mass., where Vernova is located (and which happens to be headquarters of Radical Compliance too).
Lear Corp. has promoted Jennifer Gilhool, from global director of ethics and compliance to vice president. Gilhool has been with Lear for nearly four years.
Financial services firm Raymond James has hired Rich Garrett as vice president of compliance for investment products and advisory services. Garrett comes to the firm after nearly 20 years at Wells Fargo as chief compliance officer for the bank’s registered investment advisory business.
ScotiaBank has promoted Nicole Frew from chief compliance officer to be co-head of U.S. operations. Frew has been with ScotiaBank for seven years, and CCO there for the last four. We can’t imagine any role better than chief compliance officer but we do like seeing compliance officers move into senior leadership roles!
Austin Nogales Thomas has joined Viiv Healthcare as director of compliance. Thomas comes to Viiv, which works to fight HIV and AIDS, from Ironshore, a pharmaceutical manufacturing business, where she had been senior director of corporate compliance.
Canadian Western Bank, based in Edmonton like any good business in western Canada, has hired Simisola Ogunsola as senior internal audit consultant, working on SOX compliance and certification. Ogunsola comes to CWB from Access Bank, where she had been an internal auditor.
Katrina Garcia has joined Tactical Rehabilitation as compliance officer. Garcia comes to the business (which makes medical equipment for members of the military rather than runs rehab centers) from Emonics Healthcare, where she had been director of compliance.
Colin Kilkolly has been promoted at Flybuys, a customer rewards program in Australia, from enterprise risk and compliance manager to head of risk and compliance.
Furniture retailer Arhaus has hired Emily Porter as manager of IT compliance. Porter joins Arhaus from Cohen & Co., an advisory firm based in Cleveland, where she had been a manager in the IT audit and risk practice.
Coöperatie Primera, a chain of convenience stores based in the Netherlands, has hired Tessa Smit to be risk and compliance manager. Smit previously spent six years at Marel, a maker of food-processing equipment, as an internal control specialist.
Carmen Rohr has joined Symetra, an insurance firm based in Washington state, as assistant director of compliance and head of the privacy office. Rohr previously worked at BMO’s U.S. operations as senior privacy officer.
Masthead, a South African firm that provides risk management services to small investment advisers there, has hired Carmen Brink as compliance officer. Brink comes to the firm after five years at Prime Investments, where she had been compliance officer.
Another in South Africa: Rozanne Ahmed Gany has joined FirstRand as head of compliance for commercial banking. Gany comes to FirstRand from Standard Chartered, where she had been head of financial crimes compliance for the South Africa region.
EFY Finance, an investment fund in Colombia, has hired María Vizcaíno Ramírez as compliance officer. Ramírez previously worked at Gecelca SA, a mining concern in Colombia, as a compliance specialist.
Nordea Bank has promoted Jannie Blok Jensen from senior compliance officer to lead compliance officer. Jensen has been with the Denmark-based bank since 2017.
And another from Denmark: TotalEnergies has promoted Hanna Babekno from senior accountant to controller and compliance manager.
NAES Corp., provider of consulting and other professional services to the energy industry, has hired Erin Schmitz as a compliance manager. Schmitz joins the firm from Xylem, where she had been EHS and sustainability manager.
We noticed that LaSalle Vaughn joined investment advisory firm Altruist Financial as chief ethics and compliance officer back in July. (Apparently Vaughn’s arrival was only announced this week.) He comes to Altruist from Bestow, an insurance technology firm, where he had also been chief ethics and compliance officer.
And Taylor Hayes has joined Krispy Kreme as a compliance coordinator. Hayes previously worked at Magnit, an HR services firm, as a client services consultant. Welcome to the profession, and here’s hoping you get free donuts as a perk of the job!
Milestones
Michael Gilligan is celebrating one year at American National Bank as fair lending compliance officer.
Tim Shannon is celebrating one year at Bluebird Bio as senior compliance associate.
Don Benners just hit five years at Wells Fargo where he’s a financial crimes consultant.
Vendors & Service Providers
We’d be remiss if we didn’t note that Karen Moore, a long-time compliance professional and delightful human being, has launched a compliance consulting firm called Sounding Board Compliance. Moore used to run compliance at Unisys and Philip Morris (among other places) and teaches compliance at Fordham Law School.
Open Req Orders
This week’s job openings are all along the East Coast!
First, Xerox is looking for a global head of audit and internal controls. Job is based in Norwalk, Conn., with a preposterously wide salary range of $180,000 to $360,000. Looks like the job was first advertised last month and recently reposted.
TD Bank is seeking a head of U.S. compliance monitoring and testing. Job is based in New York, with a salary range of $250,000 to $370,000. Deadline to apply is Oct. 10!
And Florida Atlantic University is still looking for a chief ethics and compliance officer! Job is in Boca Raton, Fla., and was originally advertised back in July, so maybe some finalist didn’t accept. Salary range is $165,000 to $175,000.
