Compliance Jobs Report: Oct. 25
Lots of news as usual in the Compliance Jobs Report this week! The CCO of Uber has decamped to OpenAI (so let’s speculate on who might succeed him at Uber), plus other items from Citibank, Pacific World, CONCACAF, and more. Job leads are in higher education, defense, and healthcare; Meme of the Week goes out to the kids!

Compliance Jobs
This week we begin with OpenAI, which just hired Scott Schools to be the company’s first-ever chief compliance officer. Schools will “work closely with teams across OpenAI … further strengthening our efforts to thoughtfully drive and navigate the evolving landscape,” the AI giant said in a flawlessly anodyne corporate statement. Schools comes to OpenAI from Uber, where he had been chief ethics and compliance officer since 2018; prior to that, he spent most of his career at the Justice Department.
This does raise the question of who will hold down the ethics and compliance fort at Uber now that Schools is gone. Let’s note that Heather Childs, Uber’s head of trust and security, was deputy chief ethics and compliance officer when Schools first joined the company. Or maybe Uber will go in some other direction; I don’t know. (If you have something to share confidentially, I’m always at [email protected].)
Citibank continues to boost its compliance staff. First, the bank grabbed Nathan Martinez as vice president for product integration sanctions compliance. He joins the bank from PNC, where he most recently had worked on regulatory change for sanctions issues. Citi has also hired Neil O’Reilly as assistant vice president for compliance risk management. O’Reilly comes to Citi after three years at law firm Allen & Overy; he’s based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
PNC, meanwhile, has hired Alayna Corbin as senior internal auditor. Corbin previously worked at Federated Hermes, a financial firm, as a staff accountant.
In Europe, Merve Miskin has joined Nordea Bank as central compliance monitoring and testing officer. She comes to the bank (which has had a bumpy relationship with regulators in recent years) from KPMG, where she had been an internal audit manager. She’s based in Poland.
Brian Kearns has left USAA after six years there, most recently as lead compliance risk manager. Where to? Kearns has joined Cash App, an online payments player, as regulatory lead.
Grant Brennan has a new job as global regulatory compliance manager at Pacific World Corp., maker of Dippity Do hair gel and other personal care products. Brennan joins Pacific World from Previon, maker of healthcare test kits, where he had been director of continuous improvement.
AFBI, an investment firm based in Florida, has hired Victoria Stearns as chief compliance officer. Stearns comes to the hedge fund after a six-month tour at Compliance Risk Concepts, a compliance consulting firm, where she had been a senior compliance professional. Prior to that she spent at Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisors as CCO.
Patricia Potts has a new role at Wells Fargo, moving from executive director of regulatory relations to executive director of consumer lending risk program strategy.
Lending Club just hired Meghan Cloward as a senior compliance data analyst. Cloward previously worked at Merrick Bank, a credit card issuer and part of the Ally Financial empire, also as a senior compliance data analyst.
In Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Baber has joined Dussur, a government-sponsored industrial development company, as risk and compliance lead. Baber comes to Dussur from BDO’s Saudi affiliate, where he had been a supervising consultant for two years.
Overtime, a New York company that bills itself as builder of “disruptive new sports leagues” has hired Matthew Kovacs as manager of compliance and regulatory affairs. Kovacs joins the group from the College of William & Mary, where he had been assistant registrar for compliance.
Total Payments, a fintech startup in the payments world, has hired Meyya El-Amine as compliance officer, based in Dubai. She previously was compliance officer at SimplyFi, another fintech startup.
And the Toledo Police Federal Credit Union has hired Bri Hess as compliance officer. Hess previously worked at Sun Federal Credit Union, also based in Toledo, where she had been a business services specialist.

Coherent Corp., a materials and laser technologies business, has promoted Marie Batz Martin from general counsel for global compliance to chief compliance officer. Here’s hoping she got a laser weapon as part of the new role.
Daiichi Sankyo US has promoted Cindy Kohr from associate director for compliance monitoring to director of compliance monitoring. Kohr has been with the Japanese pharma giant in various roles for 21 years.
CDW has promoted Darla Cann from corporate procurement officer to supply chain risk and compliance officer.
