Dispatches From SCCE Europe

The Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics held its annual European conference this week in Portugal, where more than 300 compliance professionals gathered to talk shop, schmooze over port and vinho verde, swipe branded swag from vendors, and otherwise support our glorious corporate compliance community.

Yours truly had the great fortune to be there in Lisbon for the conference. It was a great time and a wonderful opportunity to meet a diverse range of compliance thinkers — but I’m not the star of the show; the compliance officers who attended were. So without further delay, here are a few social media dispatches from those attendees to give the rest of us a feel for the event.

The conference opened Monday morning with a presentation on turning ethics and integrity into a positive force in your corporation. Hats off to Bettina Palazzo for capturing the opening on video, to give us a sense of how many people attended.

Excellent session on Monday about employee leaks of confidential information, with practical tips to manage leaks and deeper insights about how leaks are a reflection of your company’s speakup culture.

A look at the importance of compliance training, and how to measure whether your training efforts are having a real impact.

And who says a gathering of European compliance professionals can talk only about European issues? Plenty of other parts of the world made guest appearances on the agenda.

Some of the usual compliance big-wigs…

Don’t forget the networking! Half the point of attending these conferences is to meet people you rarely (or even never!) see in person. Such as this association of Portugal-based compliance officers, which I didn’t even know existed until this week.

Nice farewell sentiment here from Diego Espigado, a first-time attendee.

You can find other dispatches on LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social media sites under the hashtags #ECEI2025, #ECEI, and all the other usual hashtags for our crowd. Thanks to the Society of Compliance & Ethics for all its hard work in putting this event together.

The 2026 SCCE Europe conference will be March 2-4 in Berlin. Well worth your time if you can be there!
