Compliance Jobs Report: June 27

This week the Compliance Jobs Report has a departure at Nike, a retirement at Georgetown, a new hire at Wake Forest, a promotion at the Olympics, and other personnel news from Cheniere Energy, Walmart, Cardinal Health, Spirit AeroSystems, and many more. Job leads are in AI, banking, and coffee; Meme of the Week goes out to whistleblowers!

Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.

We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs

This week we start at Nike, where global compliance head Casey Kaplan is hanging up the cleats after 10 years at the company, most recently as senior legal director for global ethics and compliance. No word yet on what Kaplan is doing next, but he did refer to “an awesome new opportunity” in an announcement on LinkedIn. #OffAndRunning

Word on the street is that James Ward is retiring as associate vice president of ethics and compliance at Georgetown University. Ward has been with Georgetown since 2001, also working as associate general counsel. The university is now recruiting for a new head of ethics and compliance (salary range $135,000 to $264,000). Presumably this means you’ll need to be a Hoyas fan to get the job, which is unfortunate but I’ll stay friendly to you.

Meanwhile, Wake Forest University just hired Kenneth Liddle as chief compliance and privacy officer. Liddle comes to Wake Forest (go Demon Deacons!) after not quite a year at FIFA, where he was senior compliance and risk manager. Prior to that he was chief compliance officer at Northeastern University in Boston.

Cheniere Energy has hired Patrick Hays as director of compliance and ethics. Hays previously worked at Dresser Utility Solutions as global compliance director.

complianceKerry Barker has joined Sony Interactive Entertainment as senior director of AI governance for Sony’s Playstation business. Barker comes to Sony after seven years at Google, where she had been AI governance lead.

Speaking of Sony, the company also just hired Vanessa Sisti for an in-house legal role. Exactly what role, Sisti hasn’t said yet, but she previously spent 12 years at the U.S. Justice Department in various roles, and had most recently been assistant chief of the FCPA unit. Sad to see a dedicated government employee leaving public service, but we wish her well.

Rita Chernyak Weaver has joined Family First Homecare as chief compliance officer. Weaver comes to the Florida-based company, which provides in-home care to children with life-long disabilities, from Lincare, where she had been deputy CCO since 2021.

Walmart has hired Anthony McAuley as director of specialty compliance and ethics. McAuley comes to Walmart after three years at Cargomatic, where he had been senior director of strategic accounts; but prior to that McAuley had worked for Walmart for many years, departing as director of global logistics.

Nametag, a software business in Seattle working on identity access management solutions, has hired Nikita Patel as head of security assurance and GRC. Patel comes to Nametag from Opendoor, where she had been a senior manager for GRC.

CG Oncology just hired Amrita Oza as senior manager for SOX compliance. Oza joins the company (working on bladder cancer treatments) after five years at SOAProjects, where she had also been a senior SOX compliance manager.

Garanfil Hasanova has been hired by AE Industrial Partners as a compliance manager. She previously worked at Blackstone for six years, most recently as a compliance specialist.

Spark, a platform for Medicare insurance brokers, has hired Alexis Pinkley as director of compliance. Pinkley joins Spark after a year at UnifyCX, where she had also been director of compliance.

Investre, a fintech startup in Luxembourg, has hired Renata Olow as chief compliance and risk officer. Olow comes to the firm from 3i Investments, where she had been compliance officer since 2021.

Jeff Roth just landed at Spirit AeroSystems, as supply chain indirect procurement and compliance manager. Roth previously worked at Craftsman Industries as director of purchasing and supply chain management.

Victoria Piekarz has left her job as compliance officer at Ardian, a private investment firm in New York. What’s next? She is now vice president of legal and compliance at Pretium, another investment management firm in New York.

Financial services firm Synchrony has hired Paulina Rivero-Borrell as vice president of customer due diligence and anti-money laundering compliance. Rivero-Borrell previously worked at UBS as director and head of enhanced due diligence for the bank’s U.S. markets.

And Space Coast Credit Union (in Florida, naturally) has hired Rene Hernandez as assistant vice president for compliance. Hernandez comes to Space Coast after five years at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where he had been a compliance examiner.

Moving Up the Ladder

Big promotion news in the sports world this week: the International Olympics Committee has promoted Giuseppe Deleonardis to chief ethics and compliance officer. Deleonardis had been deputy CCO since he joined the IOC in 2017. He succeeds Pâquerette Girard, who had been CCO at the Olympics since the role was created in 2015. She will continue to serve as secretary of the IOC Ethics Commission.

Equinix has promoted Suzanne Gallie from vice president of global risk and security to vice president of risk and compliance. (Any job change that adds “compliance” to your title is automatically a promotion.)

Cardinal Health has promoted Moises Perez from adviser on global trade compliance to manager of global trade compliance.

Eli Lilly & Co. has promoted Arushi Jain from associate director of risk and governance to director of ethics and compliance.

The U.S. Department of Defense has promoted Shadey Turner Brown from chief of advocacy services to compliance officer.

Insurance giant Travelers has promoted Katie O’Brien from regulatory director to compliance manager.

Fidelity has promoted Juliana Smigielski from risk director to director of asset management compliance.

Charles Schwab has promoted Ryan Swindell from manager of business unit risk to senior manager of compliance.

RBC Wealth Management has promoted Drew Lukas from associate director and head of sales practice oversight to director of supervisory oversight.

IT outsourcing firm Thrive has promoted Scott Benson from security engineer to GRC team lead.

Goldco has promoted Ana Maria Duncan from compliance specialist to senior compliance specialist.

And S&T Bank, a community bank in Indiana, has promoted Melinda Wright from senior consumer compliance analyst to consumer compliance manager.

Open Req Orders

AI giant Anthropic is looking for a head of integrity and compliance. Candidates should have experience in “at least one hyper-scaling global tech environment.” Job is based in San Francisco, with a salary range of $270,000 to $345,000. (Anthropic, by the way, are the same ones who recently found their latest AI model trying to report misconduct directly to whistleblowers during testing scenarios)

TD Bank, still working through its huge anti-money laundering settlement from last year, is looking for a regulatory liaison and monitor response lead. Job is based in New York, with a salary range of $250,000 to $370,000. Closing date for applications is July 8 (which makes me wonder whether they already have a specific person in mind, but a listing is a listing).

Starbucks is hiring an internal audit manager for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Job is based in Seattle, with a salary range of $110,00 to $166,000. One presumes you also get free coffee, which is of course priceless.
