Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 29
What better way to honor Labor Day than to read the Compliance Jobs Report? We have several departures from high-profile organizations this week (Volvo and the NRA, among others), and new hires at Papa Johns, Digital Realty, American Express, Make-a-Wish, and more. Job leads are in mortgages, banking, and real estate; and don’t forget our Meme of the Week!
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs
This week we begin with a few departures. First, Augusta Speiser is leaving her role as chief ethics and compliance officer at Volvo Cars. Speiser came to Volvo in 2021 after 11 years in various roles at Dentsply Sirona. Speiser says she will take some time to “reflect and recharge” before deciding what to do next. No word yet on who might succeed her as CCO, but Volvo has been going through layoffs this year.
Second, Robert Mensinger has stepped down as chief compliance officer at the National Rifle Association. Mensinger joined the NRA two years ago and became chief compliance officer in mid-2024, helping to build the organization’s compliance program as it recovered from a governance crisis under prior leadership. No word yet on who the NRA might name as a successor.
Third, Q VanBenschoten has retired from Intertek, where she had been chief compliance officer since 2021 and held various other compliance roles before that since 2010. Let’s see if VanBenschoten actually stays retired, or the raw thrill of corporate compliance brings her back into the game some day!
Now onto some hiring news…
Oceaneering, an oil and gas services business based in Houston, has hired Candace Jasso as compliance manager. Jasso comes to the company after a few years hanging out with the Wallenstein Law Group, a boutique firm in Houston; prior to that she was global compliance manager at Trillium Flow Technologies.
Ann Sultan, superb compliance thinker and one of the nicest compliance professionals in Washington D.C., has joined Digital Realty as a senior director and corporate compliance counsel. Sultan comes to the IT services firm after 12 years at law firm Miller Chevalier, where she had been vice-chair of the firm’s international practice.
Lauren Hebert has been hired by Papa Johns as a SOX compliance manager. Hebert comes to the pizza delivery giant after six years at PwC, where she most recently had been an advisory manager working on cybersecurity and GRC issues.
American Express has hired Jared Browne as an anti-money laundering compliance manager. Browne had previously been teaching at several universities on cybercrime and related issues; and before that worked as an investigator for the Department of Homeland Security.
Eaton Corp., maker of power management systems, has hired Jenna Quallich as a compliance manager. Quallich joins the Ohio-based company after eight years at Ernst & Young, where she most recently had been a senior manager in business consulting.
Cindy Hennessy has started work at Make-a-Wish America as director of legal and risk, in what she proudly proclaims will be “my last job!” Hennessey had previously been chief ethics and integrity executive at DirecTV until the end of 2024. Good for her, helping critically ill children to live their life is just about the best corporate mission around.
Precious Scott has left her job as chief audit executive at VSE Corp., a distributor of aviation equipment. What’s next? She is now assistant vice president of compliance at Arch Capital, a global insurance and reinsurance carrier.
Google has hired Rachel Kim as a privacy compliance program manager. Kim previously worked at Facebook Meta for five years as a project manager.
East West Bank has hired David Harbaugh as director of compliance advisory and head of privacy. Harbaugh comes to the Los Angeles-based bank, which does business in the United States and Asia, after a year at Comerica, where he had been a compliance manager.
Patelco Credit Union has hired John Johnson as director of regulatory compliance. Johnson comes to Patelco from Twilio, where he had worked on internal control and policy management projects since 2020.
Constantino Stefanitsis has joined BNP Paribas as vice president of compliance audit. Stefanitsis previously worked at Santander for eight years in various roles, most recently as senior audit supervisor for finance and compliance.
Tobacco giant Altria has hired Shane Rodriguez as manager of risk, compliance, and governance. Wait, that’s “RCG” — is that different from GRC? Anyway, Rodriguez joins Altria after 18 months at accounting firm Forvis Mazars, where he was a manager in the risk advisory services practice.
Kory Trott has joined the University of Chicago (go Maroons!) as director of research integrity. He was previously director of research ethics and compliance at the University of Alabama.
Citibank has hired Janel Martin as vice president of compliance transformation. Martin comes to Citi after a year at KPMG as an internal auditor, and previously worked at Citi in the early 2020s as vice president of compliance and internal audit. (This is also the second week in a row that someone has turned up in the Jobs Report with the title “vice president of compliance transformation.”)
Qcells, maker of semiconductors and other components for solar energy systems, just picked up Stephen Sullivan as senior customs and trade compliance manager. Sullivan joins the Irvine, Calif.-based company from AESC, where he had been a trade compliance manager.
Cassie Cochran has joined Secure Nursing Service, a travel nurse staffing company, as a senior compliance manager. Cochran previously worked at Uniti Med as a senior nursing compliance specialist.
In South Africa, Gugu Madokwe has been hired by the Clinton Health Access Initiative as a manager for investigations, safeguarding, and compliance. Madokwe previously spent 10 years at USAID in various roles, most recently as a regional training manager. Glad to see she landed on her feet; sad to see USAID dismantled.
Royal Bank of Canada has hired Adrian Heeley as a compliance testing manager. Heeley comes to RBC after three years at SMBC Group, where he had been an internal audit associate.
Deliveroo, the online delivery giant in the United Kingdom, has hired Ria Ivens as an ethics and compliance associate. Ivens previously worked at Capital on Tap (credit card services for small businesses) as a financial crimes specialist.
Customers Bank has hired Kathy Koch as vice president of compliance testing. Koch comes to the Pennsylvania-based bank, which has $22 billion in assets, after 20 years at Flagship Credit Acceptance, where she most recently was vice president of compliance and legal.
And Victoria Champion, chief audit executive at Kohler Co., has been named to the board of trustees at Lakeland University, a campus of roughly 2,200 students in Plymouth, Wisc. Champion has worked at Kohler in various roles for 15 years, and been CAE since last year. More compliance and audit executives on boards!

Vendors & Service Providers
Remember Jerry Hanafin, last seen at Panasonic Corp. of North America as senior compliance counsel until earlier this summer? He turned up at law firm Sandler Travis & Rosenberg as a member.
