Compliance Jobs Report: Sept. 12

The Compliance Jobs Report this week has the return of an old Danske Bank compliance leader, a retirement at Citibank, and new hires at BNY, Marqeta, McKinsey, Pacific Life, and lots more. Promotions are at Boston Scientific, Southern Co., Walmart, Temu, and elsewhere; job leads are in steel, farm equipment, and video games.

We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs

This week we begin with a Satnam Lehal sighting: Lehal, who was chief compliance officer of Danske Bank from 2019 through 2023 during its settlement of a massive anti-money laundering scandal, just turned up at British financial services firm Marex, where he is group head of financial crimes compliance. Looks like Lehal took a well-deserved career break from 2024 until now; glad to see him back in the game.

Nicole Scherrer is retiring from Citibank in November; she is head of internal audit for several of the bank’s overseas divisions, and has been with the firm since 2013. (And yes, this means the bank is recruiting for her successor.)

Investment giant Pimco has hired Michael Bryant as vice president of compliance. Bryant comes to Pimco after nearly nine years at Ernst & Young, where he had been a senior manager.

BNY has hired Ioan Pop as global head of sanctions program management. Pop comes to BNY after three years at Nordea, where he had been head of sanctions advisory and risk management.

Megan Simpson has climbed aboard Fresenius Medical Care as senior compliance investigator. Simpson previously worked at Amazon as a senior risk manager for healthcare compliance.

Pennsylvania power utility PPL Corp. has hired Debra Bealer as manager of SOX compliance. Bealer previously worked at Speciality Building Products as a senior manager of internal audit.

Jesus Bilancieri has a new job at payment card issuer Marqeta as head of compliance advisory services. Bilancieri comes to Marqeta after not-quite five years at Lane Health, where he was chief compliance officer.

Ankored, a software firm that helps sports leagues manage compliance for their coaches and other staff, has hired Kyle Lubrano as vice president of compliance and athlete safety. Lubrano previously worked at Players Health in North Carolina for five years in various leadership roles.

Meghan Naas has a new job at Innoviva Specialty Therapeutics as senior director of corporate compliance. Naas previously worked at AdaptImmune for 18 months as head of corporate compliance.

Clair Hurst has joined Daiwa Capital Markets as vice president of financial crimes compliance in Daiwa’s European operations. Hurst previously worked at StoneX Group as coordinator of financial crimes prevention policy and governance.

WebBank, a digital-only bank based in Utah, has hired Billy Gregg as senior compliance manager. Gregg, who lives in upstate New York, previously worked at Bluestem Brands for four years as director of compliance.

Katrina Garcia has joined AdventHealth in Florida as director of compliance. Garcia previously worked at Tactical Rehabilitation as a compliance officer.

Jill Blecha has been hired as a compliance officer at NexTier Solutions, a provider of outsourced business services. Blecha joins NexTier from Amundi US, where she had been a senior compliance specialist.

CDW has hired Andy Hinton as an IT audit manager. Hinton joins CDW after six years at software developer CSG in various IT audit roles. (He is not to be confused with the other Andy Hinton, former chief compliance officer at Google.)

In Syria, Osama Zaiter has joined the Syrian American Medical Society as senior compliance officer. Zaiter comes to the relief agency from Welthungerhilfe, a German anti-hunger nonprofit, where he had been a compliance officer working for the group from Turkey. We wish him well as he does important work in a dangerous environment.

Louis de Diesbach has been hired as an AI ethics and governance senior expert at Euroclear, the European financial services firm. De Diesbach comes to Euroclear after several years as an AI governance consultant at Boston Consulting Group

Speaking of consulting firms, McKinsey & Co. just hired Michelle Williams as senior ethics manager for allegations management. Williams comes to the firm (which settled a big FCPA case last year) from law firm Clifford Chance, where she had been a partner in the white-collar and regulatory practice.

South African financial firm FirstRand has hired Refiwe Makhema as ethics manager. Makhema joins FirstRand from FNB South Africa, where she had been a risk manager.

Calling in from the Isle of Man, Luke Fisher has joined Relax Gaming as head of corporate compliance. Fisher comes to the online gambling concern from Rivalry, another gambling concern on the Isle of Man, where he had also been head of compliance.

Danielle Wissmar just joined Bank of Utah as vice president and compliance manager. Wissmar previously spent five years at Mountain America Credit Union, most recently as vice president of enterprise risk management.

Insurance giant Pacific Life has hired Lana Becerra as sales compliance manager. Becerra comes to Pacific Life from BMO Wealth Management, where she was a regional administrative manager. Like any good insurance executive, she’s based in Omaha.

Norwegian Cruise Lines has hired Alexandra Curbelo as a corporate compliance analyst. Curbelo comes to the cruise line (we assume she now gets some awesome vacation perks) after a year at the National Labor Relations Board, where she had been a field attorney.

Petrosea, a mid-sized Indonesian firm working in mining and oil extraction, has hired Doly Nainggolan as business ethics and integrity lead. Nainggolan previously worked at Indonesia Eximbank as a business audit manager.

And Citibank has hired Andrea Rodríguez as a compliance associate. Rodríguez just finished up law school earlier this year and had done an internship at Citi last year. Welcome to the profession, Ms. Rodríguez!

Moving Up the Ladder

Boston Scientific has promoted Charlene Krug from associate director of global trade compliance to director of the same.

Southern Co. has promoted Wes McCart from senior counsel to director of ethics and compliance.

Walmart (technically, Walmart Canada) has moved Brendan Stevens from senior manager for anti-corruption compliance monitoring to senior manager for compliance and ethics in Walmart’s digital media operations.

Mundipharma just bumped up James Swift from senior director of global compliance operations to senior vice president for compliance and internal audit.

Citibank has promoted Timur Gaisine from internal audit manager to internal audit senior manager, with a bump from VP to senior VP too.

ConsumerDirect has promoted Sandra Carolina from compliance officer to director of compliance.

Virgin Media O2 has promoted Liann Wintermeyer from data center delivery manager to risk and compliance senior manager.

HS2, the high-speed rail project meant to connect London and Birmingham, has promoted Nicholas Allen from assistant investigator to ethics and fraud investigator.

British gambling technology business Playtech has promoted Nicole de Sousa from head of risk and internal control to director of risk, internal audit, and assurance.

Boyd Interactive, an online gambling business based in Canada, has promoted Peter Jeon from compliance analyst to compliance manager.

Zion Bancorp has promoted Collin Brown from branch service manager to compliance officer.

And Temu, that Chinese discount e-tailer trying to displace Amazon among customers willing to wait for longer shipping times, has promoted Lynn Ye from brand protection officer to regulatory compliance officer focusing on U.S. and EU markets. She’s based in Hong Kong and will likely be plenty busy.

Vendors & Service Providers

Rachel Gerstein, head of ethics and compliance at analyst group Gartner (like, she ran Gartner’s own ethics and compliance program rather than worked as a compliance industry analyst), just left the firm to join recruitment and consulting firm Spencer Stuart as global head of risk and compliance.

Ronan Healthcare Compliance has hired Jade Smith as a compliance executive. Smith comes to the firm after seven years at OrthoPediatrics, where she most recently had been director of compliance.

Open Req Orders

Farm equipment maker John Deere is looking for a global director of hotline investigations. Job can be remote, although Deere’s headquarters is in Moline, Ill. The company has been suffering lately thanks to President Trump’s tariffs, so be forewarned; then again Deere also settled an FCPA enforcement action last year so maybe the compliance budget is still valued. Salary range is $165,000 to $247,000.

U.S. Steel is looking for a corporate counsel for international trade and customs compliance. Job is based in Washington, D.C., which brings up an important point: since Trump demanded a “golden share” in exchange for allowing U.S. Steel to be acquired by Nippon Steel, you’ll essentially be working for a state-controlled business with Trump as the controller. Anyway, salary range is $166,000 to $203,000.

Sony PlayStation is hiring a director of global ethics and compliance. Job is based in San Mateo, Calif., with a crazy wide salary range of $271,000 to $406,900. But you’ll be the coolest compliance officer around in the eyes of 11-year-olds everywhere.
