Compliance Jobs Report: Oct. 31
This week the Compliance Jobs Report begins with a grim update from Fannie Mae. We also have personnel news from Hewlett Packard, AMD, Booking.com, UBS, Foundation Medicine, Capital One, Cisco Systems, and lots more. A great friend of the compliance profession is also moving on; and job leads are in social services, market research, and online auctions.
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Fannie Mae Ethics Staffers Gone
Before we get to our usual roundup of new hires, we first should note the news that mortgage giant Fannie Mae has fired at least a dozen people in its ethics and internal investigations unit. Fannie Mae also reportedly pushed out chief ethics officer Suzanne Libby last week, as well as CEO Priscilla Almodovar and general counsel Danielle McCoy.
The ethics team firings were part of larger cutbacks at Fannie Mae. The company eliminated 62 jobs across a range of functions, including IT and other support teams. This all seems to be the handiwork of Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which is Fannie Mae’s regulator. Pulte is also known as a political hatchet man for President Trump, and is the one ginning up bogus mortgage fraud charges against former FBI director James Comey and New York attorney general Letitia James.
Now back to our regular personnel news…
Compliance Jobs
This week we begin at Swiss bank UBS, which just announced a few newsworthy compliance moves. First, chief compliance and governance officer Markus Ronner has been nominated to join the bank’s board of directors next spring as vice-chair. Ronner has been head of UBS’ regulatory compliance and governance functions since 2018, and has been with the bank pretty much since his career started in 1981. It’s not clear how long Ronner will remain as chief compliance officer once he’s on the board.
Second, Michelle Bereaux, currently the bank’s group integration officer, will take on the role of group head of compliance and operational risk control at the start of next year. Bereaux is another veteran UBS executive, with the company for 26 years.
Insurity, a provider of cloud-based software to insurance firms, has hired John Tyson as chief compliance officer. Tyson previously spent a year at fintech firm Cherry as interim chief compliance officer.
Caitlin Forsythe has joined Hewlett Packard Enterprises as director of import policy and compliance. Forsythe comes to HPE after nine years at Nissan North America, most recently as senior manager for trade programs and compliance with the North America free trade agreement.
Turtle Beach, maker of headsets, controllers, and other equipment for diehard videogame players, has hired Lei Huang as SOX compliance manager. Huang previously spent eight years at Emcore Corp., most recently as SOX compliance manager.
Guillem Casòliva is leaving Booking.com after 12 years there, the last four of them as global compliance manager and working from Spain. No word on what Casòliva will do next, but he did say, “A new chapter is on the horizon, stay tuned!” The Compliance Jobs Report will certainly do so.
Ameriflo Corp., a Tennessee company that makes pumping equipment, has hired Frank Campagna as director of trade compliance. Campagna previously worked at Sun Chemical for several years as manager of global trade compliance.
Mayur Patel has joined Astellas Pharma as senior director of digital risk, compliance, and data security. Patel comes to Astellas after eight years at Deloitte, the last six of them working in the firm’s responsible AI governance practice.
American Express has hired Hayley Timmons as manager of consumer practices compliance. Timmons previously worked at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as a compliance examiner.
Ryan Pereira has joined TikTok as global export compliance counsel. (Fascinating to think that a social media company has export control issues; we’ll dig into that in a future post.) Pereira comes to TikTok from law firm Steptoe & Johnson, where he had been an associate for several years working on export and national security matters.
Foundation Medicine in Boston has hired Nicholas Sumski as director of compliance. Sumski previously spent 10 years at Fresenius Medical Care in various roles, most recently as senior manager of compliance training and operations.

Leslie Martínez Díaz has been hired by Avanos Medical as ethics, compliance, and legal manager for the EMEA and Latin America markets. Díaz comes to the medical device maker from Ask Q, a legal consulting business in Belgium, where Díaz is based. Avanos is building out a global compliance team lately so expect more personnel news in the future.
PVH Corp., the fashion retailer behind Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger brands, has hired Edwin Li as vice president of global tax reporting, compliance, and controversy, which clearly wins cool title of the week. (“Excuse me, is your team having a controversy? Yeah, I’m in charge of that.”) Li joins PVH after two years at Ernst & Young, where he had been a managing director.
Rose Caruso has a new job at insurance giant Geico on its technology risk and compliance team, working on PCI DSS issues. Caruso comes to the firm after three years at cybersecurity compliance firm Coalfire, where she had been a senior manager.
Cincinnati-based Bartlett Wealth Management has hired Samuel Ginocchio as chief compliance officer. Ginocchio comes to the firm from Zazove Associates, another investment firm, where he had also been chief compliance officer.
Jennifer Komain-Eg has been hired at Capital One as principal associate for data governance and trade compliance. Komain-Eg previously worked at Deloitte for a few years as a manager in its cybersecurity advisory practice.
Metrea, a defense contractor previously known as Meta Aerospace, has hired Avery Lance as global trade compliance specialist. Lance comes to Metrea from John James Co., where he had been team lead for trade services.
Christina Meredith has a new job at Encore Bank in Arkansas vice president and senior compliance officer. Meredith comes to Encore after a short stint at Bank OZK, where she had been a compliance officer; prior to that she was at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
And Pandora (the luxury jewelry business, not the streaming music business) has hired Annabelle Apokis as a global compliance specialist. Apokis previously worked at Pleo, a Dutch financial services business, as a compliance knowledge manager.
Moving Up the Ladder
Microchip maker AMD has promoted Thomas Leistner from head of global ethics and compliance investigations to deputy chief compliance officer. Hayley Tozeski has been promoted at Cisco Systems, from senior counsel for anticorruption to senior counsel and head of the ethics and compliance program. (Again, the iron rule: any addition of the words “ethics” or “compliance” to your title is an automatic promotion.)
GE Vernova, GE’s energy equipment business, has moved Kavitha Nambiar from chief compliance officer for the firm’s electrification software division to executive leader for ethics and compliance investigations.
Lisette Lieberman has a new job within Sumitomo Mitsui Financial, moving from chief compliance officer for the Americas at Sumitomo Bank to assistant group chief compliance officer for the whole business.

Vendors and Service Providers
Quite a moment in the compliance conference world: Adam Turteltaub is parting ways with the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics and Health Care Compliance Association after 17 years there. Turteltaub had been chief strategy and engagement officer at SCCE since 2020, and was instrumental in building up both organizations’ conferences and learning academies over the years. His exit isn’t entirely unexpected since SCCE and HCCA brought aboard a new chief executive earlier this year, but Turteltaub has been a fantastic supporter of the compliance profession for many years. We’re sure he will remain so, whatever he does next.
Law firm Steptoe & Johnson has picked up Carl Hahn as a partner in the firm’s investigations and compliance practice. Hahn had been chief compliance officer at defense contractor Northrop Grumman from 2015 until the start of this year; then he launched Gentic Global Advisors, a compliance consulting firm with a heavy emphasis on AI, along with Matt Galvin, former compliance counsel at the Justice Department and former compliance chief at AB InBev. Galvin also went to Steptoe earlier this fall.
