Compliance Jobs Report: May 3

This week the Compliance Jobs Report has a stealth departure at Citibank, new hires at Balfour Beatty, Walmart, Masimo, and elsewhere; and lots of internal promotions to note too. Job leads are in banking, credit cards, and IT services; and Meme of the Week goes out to reckless use of artificial intelligence!

Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.

We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs Report

We begin in London this week, with news that Citibank recently culled its chief compliance officer for the EMEA region, Dominic Hirons. Hirons had been in that role for five years; word on the street is that he departed as part of a larger wave of job cuts Citi imposed earlier this year. No word on what he might do next or who might next run compliance operations in Europe.

Also in London, Neill Cooke has joined Balfour Beatty as U.K. head of compliance. Cooke joins the construction and engineering giant after 10 years at Rolls Royce, most recently as head of ethics and compliance for Rolls’ civil aerospace division.

Michelle Missal has resigned as chief compliance officer for Paragon 28, a medical device maker that is “exclusively a foot and ankle company.” Missal had been CCO there for eight years. Not clear what she may do next, but Missal did post a nice farewell to her colleagues and mentioned something about “my newest adventure.”

Novartis has promoted Christof Stolla from global head of monitoring, remediation and ethics for Novartis International to head of corporate ethics, risk, and compliance assurance.

Cara Laurello has joined Aspen Aerogels, a manufacturer of niche sustainability products, as chief compliance officer. Laurello comes to the Massachusetts-based company from Moderna, where she had been senior director of ethics and compliance.

Biswajit Choudhury has been hired by ED&F Man, a commodities trading house in London, as head of group internal audit. Choudhury previously worked at the Carlsberg Group for six years, most recently as head of internal audit for Western Europe.

Medical device maker Masimo has hired Logan Wells as a compliance specialist. Wells joins Masimo from Spellman Performance, where she had been a data analyst. Welcome to the compliance profession, Wells!

Christine Ryder has joined Alight Solutions, an HR software technology firm, as head of compliance. Ryder comes to the business after almost three years at One Medical, where most recently she had been interim compliance officer.

Caesars Entertainment has promoted Christiane Castillo from internal audit manager to director of internal audit.

Convera, a cross-border payments company based in Seattle, has promoted Kevin Clark from director of compliance and risk investigations to head of global financial crimes compliance.

Lee Sullenger has joined BNY Mellon as director of digital assets compliance. Sullenger comes to BNY after six years at PNC, where most recently he was senior manager for AML and sanctions risk “and technology innovator.”

Benya, one of the largest IT service firms in the Middle East, has promoted Tarek Abdelhady from internal audit and compliance manager to senior manager. Abdelhady has been with the Cairo-based firm since 2022.

Another update in ESG assurance! AbbVie has named Manish Setia director of ESG governance and assurance. Setia has worked at AbbVie for nearly 11 years, and most recently was director of finance for the U.S. immunology unit. Before that, he was in the company’s internal audit function.

Effi Taylor has joined Walmart Connect, the in-house media and advertising wing of the Walmart empire, as director of compliance and ethics. Taylor joins Walmart Connect (which is based in New Jersey rather than Arkansas) from Farfetch, an online market for luxury goods, where she had been senior counsel for compliance and ethics.

Southwire has moved Kristen Williams into a senior ethics and compliance specialist role. Williams had previously been a talent development specialist for the Georgia-based maker of wire and cable.

The Nature Conservancy has promoted Teaira van Dyke-Watkins from ethics and compliance specialist to ethics and compliance program manager.

Kaiser Permanente has hired Prathmesh Shirsath as an ethics and compliance manager, working from Kaiser’s operations center in India. Shirsath previously worked at AdvantMed India for two years as an operations manager.

In Canada, Alberta-based utilities company ATCO has promoted Emily Clark from senior manager of internal audit to director of internal audit. Clark has been with ATCO for one year.

And Pepsico has promoted Bissan al-Shami from compliance and ethics director to senior director. Al-Shami also relocated from Dubai to South Africa.

Milestones

Austin Tellam is celebrating one year at Fresh Del Monte where he is global internal audit lead.

Vivek Shah is celebrating five years at Hewlett-Packard, where he is senior manager for control and compliance.

And we have two retirements to note. First, Jamie Allen has stepped down as head of the Asian Corporate Governance Association — which Allen had run for 25 years!

Second, Margaret Dragon has retired from the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, where she had been head of communications and editor of Compliance Today and Ethikos for 25 years. If you ever appeared in either magazine, you owe her a thank you!
