The Compliance Jobs Report this week has new hires at Albemarle, Becton Dickinson, TMS International, and more; and also departures from Allianz Life, HP, and Commonwealth Financial. Promotions to note at Stripe, Lending Club, AbbVie, and elsewhere; plus job leads in insurance, consumer products, and online auctions. Meme of the Week goes out to AI!
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs
This week we begin at Albemarle, which just hired Forrest Deegan as its new chief compliance officer. For those of you wondering, “Wait a minute; didn’t Albemarle promote its deputy general counsel to GC and chief compliance officer earlier this summer?” — yes the company did, although that was more of an interim move while the company continued to look for a permanent, full-time CCO. It has now found that person in Deegan, who previously built up the compliance function at Victoria’s Secret until he left there at the end of 2024.
Next, a few departures to note. First, Steve Koslow has announced that he is retiring from Allianz Life early next year. Koslow has been chief ethics and compliance officer at Allianz Life since 2017, and been a thoughtful voice in the compliance community for many more years than that. He will be missed. Allianz is looking for a successor; details on that in the Open Req Orders section below.
Terry Stringer is leaving HP (née Hewlett-Packard), where she has been head of the ethics and integrity office since 2017.
And Paul Tolley has retired from Commonwealth Financial Network after 19 years as chief compliance officer at the investment advisory firm. He is succeeded by Matt Sugden, another Commonwealth Financial veteran who had been senior vice president of compliance since 2022.
Back to hiring news: Becton Dickinson (or “BD” since acronyms are the trend these days) has hired Jeanne Helfant as vice president of internal audit and enterprise risk management. Helfant comes to BD after three years running internal audit and ERM at Embecta, a spin-off from BD — and prior to that, she spent nearly two decades at BD in various internal audit roles. So this is a bit of a homecoming for her.
TMS International, a provider of equipment and services to steel mills around the world, has hired Spencer Bassett as chief compliance officer. Bassett comes to TMS after two decades in the Justice Department, much of that time spent on national security issues. Sad to see the ongoing brain drain from the Justice Department, but we wish him well at TMS.
Jessenia Cornejo is the new chief compliance officer at Vikor Scientific, a biotech research firm based in South Carolina. Cornejo joins Vikor after several years as a healthcare compliance consultant with Axiom.
Texas Capital, a bank in (you guessed it) Texas, has hired Joe Getty as head of financial crimes compliance. Getty previously worked at Ernst & Young for four years as a manager in its financial crimes advisory practice.
LionTree, a merchant and investment bank based in New York, has hired Kristin Johnson as chief compliance officer. Johnson comes to LionTree after three years at Global Infrastructure Partners, where she had also been chief compliance officer.
Trudi Gilligan has joined iCapital, a financial technology firm, as managing director of regulatory compliance. Gilligan previously had a long career at Citibank as head of legal in several of Citi’s alternative investment divisions.
Monex Europe just picked up Kieran Child as U.K. head of financial crimes compliance. Child comes to the payments and financial services firm from Apex Group, where he held a similar title overseeing U.K. financial crimes compliance.
Mamdouh Badr has been hired by Citibank as head of export control compliance and trade solutions compliance for Citi’s Middle East region. Badr previously worked at Standard Chartered Bank for eight years, most recently as a director of financial crimes compliance and conduct risk.
Another week, another compliance hire at TD Bank. This time it’s Jennifer Orr, hired as senior compliance business oversight manager. Orr previously worked at LPL Financial for 10 years, most recently as assistant vice president for trading.
William Bethell just turned up as chief compliance officer at Welrex, a wealth management firm in London. Bethell was last seen at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, where he had been head of regulatory compliance until February of this year.
Diana Diaz has climbed aboard American Express as senior manager for international market compliance. Diaz joins Amex from Questrade Financial Group, where she had been compliance manager for business integrity for three years.
The HELOC Co., a mortgage industry lender, has hired Kara Miller as compliance officer. Miller comes to HELOC after nine months at Upstart, a “leading AI lending marketplace,” where she had been licensing operations manager.
In Indianapolis, Lisa Taylor has been hired as chief compliance officer of the Health & Hospital Corp. of Marion County, which operates several healthcare systems in the area. Taylor had previously been a managing director at consulting firm Ankura for nearly three years.
Australian payments firm Afterpay has hired Eve Ishak as senior compliance manager. Ishak joins Afterpay from National Australia Bank, where she had been head of compliance advisory since 2022.
Boston Scientific has hired Abhimanyu Dasgupta as a compliance principal working from the company’s operations in India. Dasgupta comes to Boston Sci from Mankind Pharma, where he had been a director of business ethics compliance.
Moving Up the Ladder
Comerica Bank has promoted Kristina Janssens from chief compliance officer to chief risk officer. Janssens first joined Comerica as CCO in 2023.
Online payments giant Stripe has two notable promotions this week. First, Samantha Lomeli has moved up from chief compliance officer for the Americas to “global head of compliance officers,” which wins the Awesome Job Title of the Week award. Second, Maryam Seghrouchni has been promoted from financial crimes risk policy manager to head of financial crimes compliance and governance.
Lending Club has promoted Brian Rosenberg from deputy chief compliance officer to chief compliance officer.
Valley Forge Fabrics has promoted Brandi Kolanz from senior director of strategic projects to vice president of business intelligence and compliance. (That seems like an excellent blend of experience to manage compliance risk assessment challenges these days.)
AbbVie has promoted Brooke Broda from senior global compliance auditor to compliance audit supervisor.
Ebony Green has a new role at Abbott, moving from senior counsel for e-discovery to senior counsel for trade compliance.
Fiserv has promoted Kelly Thewes from vice president of privacy and data ethics to global head of data privacy compliance and chief data ethics and privacy officer.
GIG Saudi Arabia, an insurance business in the Middle East, has promoted Kashif Ejaz from SOX consultant to SOX compliance manager.
Canadian Tire has promoted Fabio Lonigro from service engagement manager to director of IT services compliance.
Open Req Orders
eBay is looking for a senior manager of global SOX compliance and internal audit. Job can be based in either Salt Lake City or Austin, Texas; salary range is $123,000 to $198,000.
Colgate-Palmolive is looking for a manager of global ethics and compliance. Job is based in New York, with a salary range of $120,000 to $168,000. Note that the job listing does not say to whom this role reports, which makes me wonder whether the company has downgraded the CCO role since the prior CCO left C-P in July. (If one of my spies out there knows, please report in at [email protected].)
And as we mentioned earlier, Allianz Life is looking for a vice president of ethics and compliance to succeed Steve Kozlow. Job is based in Minneapolis, with a salary range of $300,000 to $340,000.
